LONDON—In a swift move, PM Rishi Sunak has removed a senior Conservative Party member from his government position as a ministerial aide. Paul Bristow, who served as a parliamentary private secretary (PPS) at the science department, faced this action after publicly advocating for a “permanent” ceasefire in the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Bristow had conveyed his call for a lasting ceasefire in Gaza to PM Sunak, emphasizing that such a step would save lives and facilitate the unimpeded flow of humanitarian aid to those in need.
The decision to dismiss Bristow from his role came in response to what No. 10 described as a breach of “collective responsibility.” This move followed PM Rishi Sunak’s continued assertion that Israel retains the right to use military force against Hamas.
A spokesperson from Downing Street explained, “Paul Bristow has been asked to leave his post in government following comments that were not consistent with the principles of collective responsibility.”
