Yet another member of the Trump administration is leaving. This time, Trump is firing his Chief of Staff, Reince Pribeus to appoint General John Kelly.
Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders has issued the statement to the pool following the breaking news about the dismissal of Reince Pribeus:
“General John Kelly is one of the true stars of the Administration. He has helped seal the border and reduced illegal immigration by 70%. He is respected by everyone, especially the people at the Department of Homeland Security. The entire Administration loves him and no one is comparable.
He will begin on Monday morning and a cabinet meeting will follow his swearing in Monday morning.
The President thanks Reince Priebus for his service. They accomplished a lot together. He was loyal in his dedication to the President. The President thanks him and his family for his great service to the country, and he will always be a member of the Trump Team.”
Today, President Trump has given his Chief of Staff, Reince Pribeus, the sack. This follows weeks of speculation that Trump lacks confidence in Pribeus. More importantly, it’s part of a larger pattern of high turnover within the Trump administration.
Only last week did Press Secretary Spicer resign. Press Secretaries tend to have high turnover rates, however. The firing of Reince Pribeus is far more shocking and likely to have greater ramifications within the Trump administration, and the public’s confidence in Trump’s stability as a leader.
The AF1 Flight
Reince Priebus de-planed AF1 and got into the motorcade before the pool was able to see the announcement or ask him questions. As word spread about Priebus’ dismissal, some reporters got up close to Priebus’ car, taking cell photos and such. Priebus’ car then pulled aside, out of the POTUS motorcade. Priebus car and a follow up departed at 4: 58PM.
POTUS de-planed at 5:01 pm.
He came to the pool to answer shouted questions.
“Reince is a good man. John Kelly will do a fantastic job. General Kelly has been a star, done an incredible job thus far, respected by everybody. He’s a great great American. Reince is a good man,” POTUS said.
Updates will be added as the story develops.
