President Biden has issued a statement on Colin Powell’s death. The first African-American Secretary of State has died on Monday morning of COVID-19 complications.
The president said that “even in disagreement,” Colin Powell was someone “who gave you his best and treated you with respect.”
Biden said that Colin Powell “put country before self, before party, before all else” and added that he will “miss being able to call on his wisdom in the future.”
The president said that late general “embodied the highest ideals of both warrior and diplomat.”
Biden acknowledged Powell as someone who “repeatedly broken racial barriers” but “above all” Biden has said, “Colin was my friend.”
