The United Kingdom has sealed a fresh trade deal with Oklahoma, one of the US states. Nigel Huddleston, the UK Trade Minister, inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during his trip to the United States on Tuesday. Along with the MoU, Huddleston also welcomed a Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) designed to eliminate trade obstacles for UK architects operating in the US.

“Both these agreements will benefit British businesses, unlock huge opportunities in clean energy and technology through our MoU with Oklahoma and make it easier for our world-leading British architects to export their services across the Atlantic,” said Huddleston.

The UK government has already signed three other trade deals with US states – Indiana, North Carolina, and South Carolina – as part of its post-Brexit plan to expand trans-Atlantic trade.

The new UK-Oklahoma deal aims to promote eco-friendly trade, particularly in carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS), according to the Ministry. The objective is to raise the value of British exports to Oklahoma, which amounted to $215.6 million in 2022, and create additional employment opportunities for UK exporters.

Nuclear equipment, precious stones and metals, as well as photographic equipment including medical and navigational gear, were among the leading goods exported from the UK to Oklahoma in 2022.
