TODAY AT THE WHITE HOUSE

Yesterday, Biden spoke with the Attorney General, regarding the attack on a synagogue in Texas. Speaking on how the man who carried out the attack got his hands on the weapons, Biden said that “the assertion was he got the weapons on the street, that he purchased them when he landed.” Biden said that “there were apparently no bombs that we know of,” although the attacker said that there were bombs there as well. “He apparently spent the first night in a homeless shelter — I don’t have all the details, so I’m reluctant to go into much more detail, but allegedly he purchased it on the street. What that means, I don’t know if he purchased it from an individual in the homeless shelter or a homeless community,” said Biden.

To the main question, why did the man target this specific synagogue, Biden did not have an answer. “I don’t think there is sufficient information to know why he went to that synagogue and why he insisted on the release of someone who’s been in prison for over 10 years, why he was using anti-Semitic comments. I just don’t have enough facts.”

Today, Biden will return to the White House from Wilmington, Delaware. This whole week will be busy for the president. He will hold the first press conference tomorrow, and, on Friday, he will virtually meet with Kishida Fumio, the PM of Japan.

Over the weekend, Secretary Blinken spoke on the phone with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrel. They were discussing the best way to respond to “Russia’s continued, deeply troubling military buildup in and near Ukraine.”

In an interview with NPR, Binken said that there are two paths towards resolution with Russia. “There is the path of diplomacy and dialogue, and we’re committed to that, we believe that it’s the best way forward, it’s the most responsible way forward to deal with differences and also – and the situation in eastern Ukraine. On the other hand, if they choose confrontation, if they choose aggression, we’re fully prepared for it.”
