The meeting between House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden did not happen yet, but is already making a splash. The White House memo written by National Economic Council Director Brian Deese and Office of Management and Budget Director Shalanda Young ahead of the meeting on spending and the debt ceiling has caused a strong reaction among the Republicans.
Speaker McCarthy took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to hit back at President Biden. “Mr. President: I received your staff’s memo. I’m not interested in political games,” McCarthy stated. “I’m coming to negotiate for the American people.”
On his way to New York this morning, Biden confirmed the memo’s content by saying that he plans to tell McCarthy, “Show me your budget.”
