#GoodMorningDC. Beware when those who are speaking of liberty become the censors of free speech.

Good Morning, DC.

Mike Pence played President all day yesterday. Trump will not be attending the Inauguration, as he informed the world in one of the last tweets before his removal from the platform, so Pence will be doing what the United States President does come Wednesday.

Pence is a former governor, so he claims to have knowledge about the National Guard. “Thank you for stepping forward to your country,” Pence thanked the servicemen and women. He talked about being on hand for the “historic transfer of power for the inauguration of your President of the United States.” Guardsmen applauded.

Trump is at the White House, alone. Not only is he bound to leave his DC estate, but Macaulay Culkin, who starred in Home Alone 2, is all for the digital removal of Trump from the movie. In one scene of the movie, Culkin’s character asks Trump for directions to the Plaza Hotel, a New York landmark Trump owned at the time. Now the movie’s director and main lead are awarding Trump with yet more digital ostracism, a precedent started by the CEO of Twitter.

The whole month of January is one of the most dramatic months we have had in a while. The nation went from insurrection to impeachment, all while hovering one step away from the impending Inauguration.

Washington, DC is under heavy military barricades, rings of steel, and checkpoints. There’s an eerie feeling that accompanies an Inauguration surrounded by the military. The word ‘lockdown’ is, here, used for safety and security purposes–  not currently for pandemics. We were told that November 3, 2020, was supposed to resolve the Gordian knot, but, instead, America seems to have plunged into a much deeper crisis, seemingly overnight.

Only 1 in 5 Republicans want Trump to be removed, according to the Ipsos Mori/Axios survey. 57 percent want Trump to be their nominee. With the Republican Party breaking up, those who want to save the party from Trump seek to make a clear distinction between a Trump supporter and an old-time Republican.

“These people who vote and support Trump are not real Republicans. They have never been Republicans. They registered to become members of the Republican Party when Trump ran for the president,” a GOP insider told Good Morning DC.

The ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump fear they are in danger.

“We expect that somebody may try to kill us,” Peter Meijer told MSNBC. Is that the price for a peaceful transition within this democracy? Is this a sign that the lines of polarization have become more deeply entrenched, or will all tensions simply evaporate when Joe Biden takes his oath?

The reporters will no longer follow Trump’s every move, and, without any social media to communicate with his supporters, he has no choice but to make some drastic adjustments.

Will Trump join the Duchess of Cornwall’s book club? The Reading Room of the Royal will get four book recommendations each season, and, while splitting time between making his own party, a media empire, and legal defense, once the occupant of the most powerful office in the world could plunge into idle life. This very season, the Duchess of Cornwall is putting four book recommendations: The Mirror and the Light (Hilary Mantel), Restless (William Boyd), Where The Crawdads Sing (Delia Owns), and The Architect’s Apprentice (Elif Shafak).

The Inauguration will be a celebration for many, and the festivities are set to match the heightened excitement over President-elect Biden. Kerry Washington and Eva Longoria will take Americans through the night of passionate speakers and musical acts. Those gracing the stage range from Foo Fighters to Demi Lovato, and there is certain to be an act for everybody to enjoy. Tom Hanks will host “Celebrating America” on the Inauguration day from 8:30-10:30 PM ET.

Joe Biden is already writing $2000 stimulus checks. Direct payments. Extended unemployment. Rent relief. Food assistance. Aid to small businesses. All that and so much more from your soon to be inaugurated president with The Rescue Plan.

And that’s a wrap. Beware when those who are speaking of liberty become the censors of free speech.  Be aware of groupthink. The weekend is coming. I’ll be back on Monday to tell you everything you need to know. There is nothing worse than waking up on the wrong side of history.
