On his first day at the UNGA, the President Trump participated in a bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel.

Pool entered the room in Palace Hotel where the meeting between President Donald J. Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel took place at 1.02 pm in New York. POTUS and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu were seated side by side and both of them gave some brief remarks.

Netanyahu said to Trump that: “under your leadership, the alliance between America and Israel has never been stronger, never been deeper”, in ways that people see it and in other ways that people don’t see it. “I want to thank you for that”. Netanyahu stressed how he wanted to discuss with POTUS “how we can address together with the terrible nuclear deal with Iran” and how to roll back Iran “growing aggression in the region, especially in Syria”.

President Trump underscored the unwavering commitment of the United States to Israel’s security.  The two sides discussed their continued cooperation across a range of issues and stressed their goals of countering Iran’s influence in the region and resolving the Syria crisis in a manner consistent with American and Israeli security interests.  In regard to Syria, they discussed defeating ISIS, al-Qaeda, and other terrorist groups.

Trump and Netanyahu also discussed their continuing efforts to achieve an enduring Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement, the optimism in the region about peace, and expanding economic opportunities to improve conditions for peace.

The White House official said that the President believes that peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians is possible.  “He is deeply committed to achieving an Israeli-Palestinian peace agreement.  He and his team have continued deliberations with leaders on both sides on potential steps to reach a comprehensive peace agreement.  His team recently had multiple meetings with leaders in the region, and obviously a good deal of work remains to be done, but discussions remain serious and constructive,” the White House official added.

President Trump assured the Prime Minister that under his and Ambassador Haley’s leadership, the United States will oppose the unfair treatment of Israel at the United Nations.
