Diane Kruger sends a powerful message to all mothers around the world who have lost their children to vicious terrorist attacks.
Diane Kruger who won the award at the 70th Cannes Film Festival for her performance in Fatih Akin’s “In the Fade,” talks for the Pavlovic Today on how the role of Katya in the movie has informed her understanding of grief and the loss of a human life to terrorist attacks.
Do you have any message based on the role of Katya you have played In the Fade and maybe some words of comfort for all mothers who have lost a child in the Machester terrorist attack?
Diane Kruger: As a human being and as a citizen of the world you know, I have not slept in days thinking about what happened not just in Manchester but all around the world nearly daily, you know, and that was one of the reasons why I went to play this character. I can never understand what that must feel like, but in my heart, you now, I am with every Katya who has lost their child.
Born in Germany, Diane Kruger attained international acclaim in 2004 for her role in Wolfgang Peterson’s film Troy. She received critical acclaim for the role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds.
After twelve days of the most extraordinary film premieres that for one moment were overshadowed with the grief for the most vicious terrorist attack in Manchester, the Cannes film festival came to an end with the award being given to Kruger for the Best Actress on the stage of the Grand Théâtre Lumière.
