President Joe Biden officially launched his reelection campaign emphasizing the importance of protecting Americans’ fundamental liberties. In a three-minute video, Biden spoke softly into the camera, showcasing him and Vice President Kamala Harris traveling during their first term. The video presents images of the January 6, abortion rights protests, and the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Katanji Brown Jackson.
In a well executed campaign video Biden speaks about the “MAGA extremists” who he believes are trying to take away Americans’ basic freedoms. The video is angling against former President Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene in the context of Social Security, women’s healthcare, and the rights of transgender and other communities.
Echoing his previous election announcement which featured images from Charlottesville, Biden stated, “We are in a battle for the soul of America, and we still are. The question we are facing is whether in the years ahead we have more freedom or less freedom, more rights or fewer.”
Alongside his announcement, Biden also revealed his senior campaign team, campaign manager Julie Chávez Rodríguez and principal deputy campaign manager Quentin Fulks, who previously managed Sen. Raphael Warnock’s 2022 reelection campaign.
The national campaign co-chairs were also named, which includes Reps. Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-Del.), Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.), Veronica Escobar (D-Texas), Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.), Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and film producer and former DreamWorks executive Jeffrey Katzenberg.
