Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said Friday that a 22-year-old man has been taken into custody in connection with the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
“We got him,” Cox said at the start of a press conference announcing the arrest of Tyler Robinson.
Robinson was taken into custody around 11 p.m. Thursday in St. George, Utah, near Zion National Park, by local and state police.

Cox said Robinson reached out to a family friend who then contacted the Washington County Sheriff’s Office with information that Robinson had confessed or implied involvement in the shooting.
According to a law enforcement official, Robinson’s father identified his son from photos released publicly. The father urged him to surrender and called a youth pastor to help. The pastor contacted the U.S. Marshals Service, which took Robinson into custody.

Cox added that investigators spoke with a family member of Robinson who said he had become “more political in recent years.” The family member described a dinner before Sept. 10 during which Robinson discussed Kirk’s scheduled appearance at Utah Valley University. In that conversation, the family member recalled Robinson saying Kirk was “full of hate and spreading hate.”
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox said that authorities believe the suspect in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk acted alone.
Officials “do not have any information that would lead to any additional arrests,” Cox said at a press conference. He added that while investigators think Robinson acted alone, the investigation remains ongoing.
The firearm recovered in the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk was a Mauser model 9836 bolt-action rifle with a mounted scope.

The killing of Charlie Kirk left me silent. While others rushed online with their statements, I did not. Though I will say this: Governor Cox’s hijacking of the press conference for political point-scoring was not only distasteful but grotesquely out of line. My silence was born of something else. The fact that a young man…
